Tradition
by Granate, 2004 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - It was probably meaningless, just meant to keep kids from fooling around too early. Probably, no one followed that antiquated tradition anymore. Probably, his family would have just teased him and then dismissed it. Probably, it didn't matter at all and he could pretend it never happened. But how was he to know? There was no one to tell him for sure. Well, there was his brother, but their next meeting would be a fight to the death, without a lot of time for admitting that he had accidentally kissed a boy, the biggest loser in his class. Now, according to the Uchiha First Kiss Tradition, he was supposed to be bound in eternal devotion to Uzumaki Naruto, Konoha Academy's most clumsy, untalented, delinquent, would-be ninja. Damn it, he didn't know which was worse - that Naruto was male or that he was such a lousy ninja. Sasuke didn't especially like any of the girls he knew, but he didn't want to be bound to a guy. Well, he didn't want to be bound to anyone, but since he was, couldn't they at least be a decent ninja? Or even smart? Or for crying out loud, just nice to look at or pleasant to be around? Naruto… Naruto failed on all accounts. Right now, he was obnoxiously running ahead of the group and only moments ago he had been threatening to kill the client they were being paid to protect. Idiot. Maybe Naruto would be stupid enough to get himself killed and then Sasuke would be free of this problematic bond. Unfortunately, Sasuke couldn't let that happen. If Naruto was in trouble, he would help. If Naruto was threatened, he would save him. Sasuke would step between him and whatever enemy he faced. He watched Naruto pretend to scout for enemies in the bushes and trip over a tree root. The more he thought about it, the more he realized this bond was going to be a real pain in the ass.
